Older Adults Embracing Technology, AARP Reports, Published in Forbes

In an article published 1/23 in Forbes, FK Managing Principal Ken Linehan discussed the uptick in tech-friendly design elements implemented in senior design projects. Residents moving into senior living units typically cite security and safety as a top concern, which is in line with the findings of a recent AARP report highlighted in the Forbes article.

“The increased use of smart locks gives peace of mind to the residents as they can control access to their security systems from their smartphones,” Linehan said. “As they move into a new environment, the mindset of security and safety has to be maintained.”

The AARP 2024 Tech Trends found that older adults are open to embracing newer technology, especially ones that enhance security. The newer tech can be incorporated into senior living in a productive way that enhances safety.

“In the 50-plus living environment, implementing smart technology has promoted a sense of autonomy, increased security, and comprehensive safety,” Linehan said.
